National Alliance

At a national level the Neurological Alliance is the umbrella group of brain and spine third sector organisations in England. Started in June 1994, the Alliance campaigns for better standards of care for all people in England living with a neurological condition. The Alliance works to influence national policy direction to achieve improvements to the services that people with or who care for a neurological condition need to have in order to manage their condition.

For more information, go to www.neural.org.uk

There are 22 Regional Neurological Alliances (RNAs) in the UK that are vital for effective user and carer engagement and good quality outcomes.  Government policy is set nationally but priorities are determined at local level.  The Strategic Health Authorities (SHA) will be dissolved by April 2012 and likewise Primary Care Trusts (PCT) will end by April 2013.  GP Commissioning Consortia will be responsible for commissioning services.

Where local condition-specific support groups form RNAs they are better placed to be a single voice and contribute to local consultation, planning, policy and debate.

Your local regional alliances are:

Neurological Conditions: Statistics

Nationally, the Neurological Alliance has embarked on an exercise to update the key statistics held about all the neurological conditions represented by the Alliance.  The intention is to use this data in ongoing policy briefings and communications and also if possible to republish the document Neuro Numbers

The attached table of epidemiological data is based on the existing Neuro Numbers document:

Updated data will be posted to the website as soon as it becomes available
