These two case studies describe the experience of individuals who have had a positive experience helped by Momentum Vocational rehabilitation Service.

ANDREA

Client:        Andrea       
Employer:  The Stroke Society
Job Title:    Administration/ Data Input Assistant

Overview:
Andrea suffered a Stroke in 2006.  The stroke resulted in:
•    Communication difficulties including written and communication aphasia.
•    Paralysis down the right-hand side of her body.
•    Andrea wished to find suitable voluntary work.
•    Initial work placement with Northern Disability to identify skills she possessed.
•    Andrea applied for a voluntary position with the Stroke Society and commenced with the position of data entry/ administration assistant.

ROBERT

Robert had a road traffic accident riding in motorbike in September 2002. He was 37 years old.  He entered a quadriplegic state and could communicate by eye movement only.  In January 2003 he had an MRI his brain injury was still severe but he was        transferred for acute in patient rehabilitation.  Six months later he was still dependent for all aspects of personal care, he was wheelchair dependent, and had a low recognition memory and difficulties with sequencing and planning.

In April 2004 he was referred to Momentum for vocational rehabilitation.  He had swallowing difficulties and found it difficult to form words and was using a lightwriter as a communication aid as well as a notebook.

Robert wanted to work in radiography as he had done prior to the accident.  The Health Trust agreed to find him a work placement  for two days a week in radiography but also to find alternative opportunities for him to remain with this employer.

JIM

Client:                     Jim       
Employer:               Constructo
Pre Injury Job Title: Construction site manager   

Overview: Jim sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury from a fall two years ago.  In order to facilitate his return to his local community and potentially employment, Jim commenced support with the Momentum Community and Vocational Rehabilitation Programme 6 months after his accident.  Jim received community support and later undertook a work placement with Construto to identify if he could realistically return to his old role or to ascertain the possibility of a creation of a new post for him.
